Calvin Boon joined Dx assays as a Senior Scientist in 2008. Since coming onboard, he has played an intricate role in setting up the biosafety and quality system and achieving the ISO 13485/9001 and BSL-2 accreditations. His function in the company includes being the co-owner of the Design Control process, and is currently leading Dx.assays' efforts in integration and validation of the next generation of the HPV assays onto a bench top automated platform that is targeted for launch in the European market. Prior to this project, Calvin and his team had successfully completed the development of an automated sample preparation protocol for cervical swap samples and a feasibility study for a universal internal control for DNA viruses.
Calvin completed his undergraduate studies with honors at the Imperial College London, UK in 1998 and obtained his PhD at the Institute of Molecular and Cell Biology (IMCB), Singapore in 2003. After which, he joined the Novartis Institute for Tropical Diseases as a Principal Scientist and was involved in setting up cell based assays for drug discovery and conditional knock out systems for Mycobacterium tuberculosis. He was subsequently awarded the Career Development Fellowship in 2004 by the National Institute for Medical Research, UK and joined them as a Research fellow. Prior to joining Dx assays, he spent 3 years as a Senior Research Fellow at the IMCB where his research focus was on identifying and characterizing novel signaling molecules involved in inter-species and cross kingdom cell-cell communication.
When he has time outside his professional commitments, Calvin enjoys traveling and photography.
